2016-17 Varsity Team Wins Tier-1 Championship!!

Congratulations to the Varsity Black Horse Ice Hockey team for winning their South Jersey High School Hockey League Tier I championship. The team won its first playoff game against Lower Cape May (10-1) but lost the next game against Williamstown (6-3). In the next game, Black Horse won in overtime (6-5) against Kingsway. Since Black Horse only lost to Williamstown, the table was set for Black Horse. They had to beat Williamstown in the semi-final and again in the final games for the championship. Fortunately, Black Horse varsity won both games (6-1 & 6-2) and became Tier I champions. This was the culmination of an outstanding regular season and a truly great playoff effort and execution by all our players.

In review of our 2016-17 season, the varsity team had an impressive record of 16 wins, 3 losses and 0 ties for a league leading 32 points. Furthermore, they led the league with 105 Goals For and only 45 Goals Against. Zack Faust led the league with 43 goals and was awarded Tier I Player of the Year. As far as goaltending, Michael Neal (freshman) led the league with 14 wins and 3 losses and with 42 Goals Against for a Goals Against Average of 2.47 and 321 Saves for a 0.884 Save Percentage. Finally, coaches Fred Popiolek and Joe Antonelli were outstanding, with Coach Fred receiving the 2016-17 SJIceHockey - Coach of the Year award.
